Jay is an experienced communications professional with 25 years of client service work including international, national and Washington experience.
In 2006, Jay advised a group of Philadelphia business leaders in their successful acquisition of The Philadelphia Inquirer, Daily News and philly.com. He continues that work today and with the help of D+P, The Inquirer has become one of the only major dailies in the U.S. to increase circulation while traffic to philly.com has doubled. Other D+P clients which rely on him for his expertise are Firstrust Bank, Sunoco Logistics, Congreso de Latinos Unidos, the Rouse Development Group and the Mann Center for the Performing Arts.
Until co-founding Devine + Powers, he was the general manager of Tierney Public Relations, where he had management responsibilities for Philadelphia’s largest public relations agency. He joined Tierney in 1989 as one of its founding members.
At Tierney, Jay directed the agency's corporate, financial, technology and healthcare account group. In this capacity, he supervised a group of accounts including Lincoln Financial Group, Independence Blue Cross, the Yellow Pages Integrated Media Association and IBM.
He has a distinguished record of accomplishment in issues management and crisis communications. From 1990-1995, Jay served as spokesperson for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia and continues to advise them today. During this period, he developed the communications strategies and plans for the consolidation of the Archdiocese’s parishes and high schools.
Prior to joining Tierney Communications in 1989, Jay worked for Golin/Harris in Philadelphia. From 1983-1988, he worked in Washington, D.C. for several public relations firms.
Jay is a graduate of Georgetown University. He is a member of the National Investor Relations Institute, the American Marketing Association and the Georgetown University Alumni Admissions Committee. He is chairman of the Board of Trustees for Neumann College, a former president of the National Adoption Center’s board of directors, and a member of the Institutional Advancement Committee for Fox Chase Cancer Center.
