John Hong

Managing Director, MS&L China

John Hong is an expert on key policy issues influencing business in China, including intellectual property rights, government procurement and corporate social responsibility.  As the managing director for MS&L China, he provides clients with enhanced capabilities in government affairs, community affairs, crisis management, internal communications, and stakeholder engagement.  He supports many of MS&L’s key clients in China, including Underwriters Laboratories, Philips, The Home Depot, Atos Origin, and Johnson & Johnson.  He also drives new business growth in our Shanghai and Beijing offices.

Previously, Hong spent five years as a senior executive in Microsoft China's Law and Corporate Affairs department, where he was responsible for corporate communications, community affairs and industry policies.  Prior to that, he was the Chief Representative for the Business Software Alliance (BSA) in China.  In this capacity, Hong headed BSA operations in China for three years and provided comprehensive services to BSA members in the areas of communications, government outreach, and strategic counselling.  From 1995 to 1998, Hong was senior manager of Burson-Marsteller in Beijing, where he provided corporate and marketing services to a number of multinational clients including International Herald Tribune, Ford, DuPont, San Miguel, United Technologies and Visa International.
