Novelis, the World’s Largest Rolled Aluminum Company

Vision and Values Campaign

Novelis, the world’s largest rolled aluminum company, celebrated its one year anniversary in January 2006 from its spin-off from Canada-based Alcan.  To differentiate itself among 16,000 employees in four regions and 26 countries, Novelis embarked on an organizational change initiative to drive its unique vision and values from the C-Suite to the frontlines.

Key features of the program were regional management meetings led by Novelis' CEO to introduce the vision, values and business strategy. Following regional meetings, plant managers/supervisors held localized Vision & Values meetings for their employees.  All presentation materials were repurposed in each site’s native language (a total of seven) so that company information could be clearly communicated to all employees.  Managers received translated leader guides with talking points supporting the vision and suggestions on how the values translate into day-to-day job functions and behaviors.

Results:
•    Campaign reached 95 percent of frontline employees within two months of launch
•    Launched “Values in Action” employee recognition program, a best practice from the company’s Brazilian operation
